Caring Lady have been part of the West Sussex community for many years. They work closely with several charities. One charity that is especially close to their hearts is Chestnut Tree House. This is the only childrens hospice in Sussex and cares for children and young adults with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. On the 21^st of December 2011 Jan Citrone (Sector Manager) went to Chestnut Tree House to deliver all the items that were collected throughout the Caring Lady branches in Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Peacehaven, Goring and Shoreham. This was very successful with the team filling 6 large Christmas bags. The bags contained plenty of selection packs, cuddly toys, stocking filler toys and arts and crafts goodies too.

Juliette Macpherson Community Fundrasier at Chestnut Tree House  commented “We are so grateful to Jan Citrone and the team at Caring Lady Funeral Directors for the amazing support they give Chestnut Tree House, which is invaluable as it helps us to raise awareness of the hospice in the local community. Last year they generously gave a number of gifts to the children, including Easter eggs, Christmas presents and a huge Christmas tree, which we placed next to the entrance of the house and gave immense pleasure to everyone who saw it. They have also provided a number of hampers, which we have used at fundraising events to raise vital money for the hospice. We cannot say thank you enough for their support and we look forward to working with them throughout 2012.”

A blessing held on Wednesday 14th December 2011 at Caring Lady Funeral Director, 38 Blatchington Road, Hove, was led by Reverend Peter King. Reverend King commented “Outside, it was a cold, wet and windy night, but inside we were warm, cosy and comforted as we remembered, sang carols, shared together and prayed. Mince pies, etc and drinks were in abundance as we gathered together for a very special time.

Thanks to all the staff for their kind hospitality at what can be a season of very mixed emotion for folk.”

Funeral Co-ordinators Kate Legate, Paula Coomber, Linda Wooff, Emily Lovick along with Sector Manager Jan Citrone added “We were delighted to be able to invite families to attend our blessing service and place their memorial cards onto our Christmas tree. It is a privilege to be able to offer the service at this special time of year”.

The Christmas trees will now remain within the reception areas of the funeral homes in Hove, Brighton and Peacehaven, Goring and Worthing until after the festive season.

The event was a great success with approximatley 200 people in attendance. Manager Jan Citrone would like to thank John Regan for all the hard work that he put into arranging the Memorial Service along with Funeral Co-ordinators Amy, Emily and Kate for helping out on the day.

I would also like to thank the Bereavement Centre for their Reading of the Poem during the service.

Due to the success of the Memorial Service, Caring Lady Funeral Directors of Hove, Brighton, Peacehaven, Goring-by-sea, Shoreham-by-sea and Worthing will be holding a second service in 2012.

The support groups offer an informal environment, where you will sit in a circle and share how you are coping or not, and support each other.

The groups meet on the second Monday of every month at the Caring Lady Funeral Directors, 38 Blatchington Road, Hove, BN3 3YH. The groups meet once a month for two hours. Chesnut Tree House Children’s Hospice was completed in 2003. It cares for terminally ill children from all over the country and is the only specialised children’s hospice in Sussex. They offer dedicated care and support not only for the children but valuable respite for their families too.

During the 2011 Easter period, Caring Lady Funeral Directors had the idea of doing an Easter Egg collection inviting everybody from colleagues to passers by to donate a chocolate egg or art and craft materials for the children and staff at Chesnutt Tree House. Angela Spencer along with Anthony Foreman from Caring Lady proudly delivered the Eggs just in time for Easter and the staff at the hospice were overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness shown by everybody.

All the colleagues at Caring Lady were very touched to receive a hand-made thank you card from the children at the hospice – “Thank you so much for all the Easter Crafts and Eggs you gave the children here at Chestnut tree House. It has given and continues to give them hours of pleasure. Love from the children and staff at Chestnut Tree House x”
